Affordable Housing Committee
| Housing is considered affordable when total housing costs - rent or mortgage plus taxes and basic utilities - are no more than 30% of a household's gross income. However, for many households, regardless of income, housing costs often go as high as 40-50% of gross income, or more. On Martha’s Vineyard housing that is affordable is a serious problem. We have an acute shortage of affordable rental and home ownership opportunities. Therefore, we are beginning to lose the fabric and foundation of our year around community, as those who wish to live here are unable to find permanent, stable housing. The Vineyard affordable housing organizations and committees are dedicated to helping find housing for people making up to 150% of median income. |
